Everneath - Brodi Ashton I am always up for a story that incorporates Greek Mythology in any way, wheter big or small. I really liked that this book used the less popular myth of Euridyce and Orpheus, I've always favored that particular myth. The Everneath is essentially the underworld, but instead of being dead, the people that inhabit it are the Everliving. Immortal beings that feed on the emotions of people, so they can remain Everliving. We start the story with Nikki and Cole, while they are finishing up their feed. Nikki has held onto the memory of Jack and chooses to return home, instead of ruling the Everneath with Cole. Unfortunately, things are never quite so easy. She's only able to return home temporarily and then the Everneath will come for her.The story alternates between the present, where Nikki is trying to get back to the life she had before, and the past that led her to agree to go with Cole in the first place. I really liked Nikki. She was so worn and broken from what she went through during the feed, but even though she often wavered, she didn't back down from what she wanted. There was such a drastic difference between the Nikki before the feed and the Nikki after, but as the story progressed and she started to fight, we got to see some of her old self come back. Jack was an absolute doll. I loved that him being a super popular, football player, didn't really define him. Sure it was a part of his character and what happened in his life, but he never acted too good and he wanted to be around Nikki no matter their social standings. Jules, Nikki's best friend, seemed pretty solid as a person. We don't really know much about her, but I have a feeling we'll get to know her better in the next books. And Cole. That boy was a charmer, but I have to admit that I never really fell for him. He came off as completely insincere, so I never really believed his feelings for Nikki. Maybe he'll change my mind in book two.So many people have said how amazing this book is, so I had really high expecations going in. I wasn't completely blown away like a lot of others were, but I definitely enjoyed myself while reading and am really looking forward to the next one. This is a solid paranormal with plenty of mythology and great romance :0)
